 Survey 

 The understanding of a questionnaire can be developed by developing the thought process of a survey. A survey is basically asking questions to a cross-sectional representative of the society about a common issue at a given period of time. A survey enables the organization, which takes the survey, that what the public opinion about a certain topic is in a given period of time.

INDIAN SOCIOLOGICAL TRADITIONS (SEMESTER-6) D.P. MUKHERJEE

Dhurjati Prasad Mukerji (1894-1961), popularly called as DP, was one of the founding fathers of sociology in India. He was a remarkable individual whose diverse interests paved the way for advancements not only in sociology but also in economics, literature, music, and art. But his erudite efforts have helped sociology the most. He was influenced by Marxist Ideology. He was a Marxist but preferred to call himself a Marxologist. He analyzed Indian society from Marxian perspective of dialectical materialism.

INDIAN SOCIOLOGICAL TRADITIONS (SEMESTER-6) G S GHURYE

 

G S Ghurye, accredited with the title of father of Indian sociology, provided descriptive accounts on caste system in his book - "caste and race in India" and advocated that " caste is a product of race", like risley, justifying with the sanskritik texts. His approach thus is considered indological, historical and comparative. He uses Aryan invasion theory to describe the origin of caste from race i.e. the superior race of Aryan formed the Brahmins and also elaborates on the evaluation of sub caste and examines caste sub caste and kinship.

INDIAN SOCIOLOGICAL TRADITIONS (SEMESTER-6) IRAWATI KARVE

Irawati Karve, India's first woman anthropologist provided the discipline of sociology with eminent works dealing with caste, family and kinship. Much of her work is influenced by Ghurye, as they shared common belief in the importance of family kinship caste and religion as the basis of Indian society. Karve, through her works, has contributed in theorizing caste and kinship in India, by touching upon the significance of past and history. To elaborate, her work - "kinship organisation in India”, becomes apparent and in this essay we will be referring to it.
